Abstract

Abstract art transforms the objects meaning and representation through use of texture, scale, shape, color, and form.

Check out the gallery on our sister site Adlab to see past semesters works.

Student work:

Abstract

The second assignment is to abstract the original object, again students are expected to create these models using only paper, glue, and gesso.

Abstract artwork is art in which the depiction of real objects has been subordinated in favor of patterns, lines, and color.

The abstract models of your original object should still be slightly recognizable. Don't forget the litmus test! The litmus test consists of a stranger(most likely from the VAB hallway) determining whether the original object is still identifiable within your abstraction of it.

Artists to look at are Meret Oppenheim (fur teacup), Picasso(Les Demoiselles d'Avignon), Deborah Butterfield,Marcel Breuer(chair design), among others.

Representational

Here are a few examples of the representational work produced this semester,
assignment one - representational art

don't forget to join our facebook group!!

Representational

Representational artwork is work that is modeled after an actual object or depicts something easily recognized by most people.

Artists to look at include Victor Spinski, Duchamp, Marilyn Levine, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and Mapplethorpe, among others.

Students are asked to bring in an object that is important to them in some way, they are then asked to recreate the object using only paper, glue, and gesso.

Welcome to Summer 2008!

Welcome to Professor Reedy's Summer 2008 design 3d course!

This Blog will be used as forum to discuss projects, go over lectures, and ask questions to your Teaching Assistant (that's me, Patricia).

As you may know, at the end of every semester the class designs a sculpture for the needs of a particular client. In the past we have worked in conjunction with companies such as Hard Rock Cafe, Harley Davidson, and The Lexington Hotel.
You can view some of these projects on our sister site, Adlab.

This semester the students will have the opportunity to design a bar for Giovanni's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria.

All Students, please be sure to join the Design 3d Facebook group and check back to the blog often for discussions.

Until next time, Patricia.
