Judgment Day

This evening the owners of Giovanni's Italian Restaurant came by to review the bars designed especially for their establishment.

Though there were many interesting pieces, the owners were able to narrow down the winners to three functional and aesthetic pieces. Each artist chosen was able to utilized the available space in the restaurant without forfeiting the elements of design.

And the winners are.....*drum roll*.....

Nora Baz

Courtney Matzke

Colleen Farris

The Summer 2008 Design 3d class would like to thank Giovanni's Italian Restaurant for the opportunity to help create the best design for their space.

Giovanni's Field Trip

The students had the opportunity to go to our client's establishment, Giovanni's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, and speak with the owners to better understand what they hope to see in a bar design. The class first took a trip to the Giovanni's in Lake Mary to take a look at the current bar, then traveled to the Giovanni's in Oviedo to study the space they are to designing for.

Conceptual

Conceptual artwork is art in which emphasis is placed on the processes of producing art objects rather than on the objects themselves, the creation is merely used to convey a message to the viewer.

For this assignment students were asked to assemble/create a conceptual piece that was in some way still related to their original object. Any medium could be used for this piece, including performance art.

Artists to look at include:
Marina Abramović (rhythm 0), Joseph Beuys, Lauren Greenfield, Orlan, Gilbert and George, Shirin Neshat, Guerilla Girls, Andres Serrano, Chris Ofili, Nan Goldin, and Kiki Smith, among others.

Student Discussion

Please post any issues you may had while creating the multiple projects and how you overcame them. What in the paper-model making process did you find simple/difficult?
Post any and all questions you may have had regarding process, transportation of artwork, and presentation.

How do you feel about the method of critique used in this class, do you find it efficient. why/why not?

A good question brought up about transportation of artwork is "what to do in the event of Florida rainstorms?" The paper models would seemingly melt away without protection, consider leaving plastic bags or a large Tupperware container in the class room so you aren't left stranded at the end of class.
